Ciao

scusate mi aiutate a dirimere alcuni dubbi su queste "fanterie da montagna" nella seconda guerra mondiale ?
La spiegazione è questa?
The Regio Esercito had a type of dision called:
Divisione di Fanteria da Montagna. The Arty Rgt of these Divs was called "da Montagna" aswell.
BUT they were NOT Mountain Artillery as in the Alpini Divisions even if their men wore an Alpini hat.
This hat was different though. The emblem on the front was the one of the "normal" arty without the eagle (like the ones in your pictures). They, though, used also the 75/13 pack owitzer.
Officers (but I'm not sure at all) wore the "normal" Officers hat and not the Alpini hat.
during WWII several infantry division were classified "divisione di fanteria da montagna" (mountain infantry division).
The main difference with standard infantry division was that divisional artillery regiment was totally packed. They had 2 75/13 battalions and 1 100/17, all packed (while a standard regiment had only one packed battalion and two towed).
Officially the definition of artillery regiment was "reggimento artiglieria per divisione di fanteria" (infantry divisional artillery regiment) but I don't know if the term "mountain" appear.
Anyway in 1940, personnel of those regiments was admitted to wear the alpine hat as their "cousins" of the real alpine artillery (which indicated artillery of alpine divisions) but the regiment continued to be part of field artillery and not of alpine artillery.
Anyway, assegnation of alpine hat didn't exclude use of standard rigid hat and, overall, the hat can easily being antecedent to 1940.
